Petition to President Donald J. Trump:
Protect America's Wild Horses and Restore Their Land
To: President Donald J. Trump
From: Concerned Citizens of the United States
Dear President Trump,
We, the undersigned citizens of the United States, write to you with urgent concern for one of America’s most iconic and cherished symbols of freedom: our wild horses.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), a federal agency under the Department of the Interior, has for years carried out aggressive roundups and removals of wild horses from their natural rangelands. In the process, over 51 million acres of land once designated for wild horse herds have been systematically taken away from them and repurposed—often for private livestock grazing and resource extraction.
These majestic animals, protected under the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971, deserve to live wild and free on the public lands that were originally set aside for them.
The continued removal and confinement of wild horses not only violates the spirit of this law but also contributes to ecological imbalance and inhumane treatment.
We respectfully urge you to take the following actions:
1. Enact legislation halting the BLM’s brutal and inhumane roundups of Wild Horses and Burros, which often lead to death and slaughter.
2. Restore the more than 51 million acres of Wild Horse and Burro Habitat that have been taken away from them over the decades.
3. Restore the Wild Herds Full Protections under the 1971 Free Roaming Wild Horse and Burro Act that were gutted by Sen. Conrad Burns in a "midnight rider" omnibus bill.
3. Support science-based, humane solutions for population management, such as fertility control, rather than mass removals.
4. Prioritize Wild Horses and Burros herds legal right to exist on public lands over the interests of commercial grazing or extractive industries. Please Negotiate on behalf of the wild herds and insist that those who benefit financially from our Federal Lands share them with America's Heroic and Historic herds.
Mr. President, wild horses and burros are part of our national heritage. They embody the spirit of independence, strength, and freedom that defines America, and they deserve our Full Respect and Protection.
We believe it is your Duty and Legacy to defend these animals and protect their rightful home on the open range.
Thank you for your time, your leadership, and your attention to this critical matter.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
